Sue Pryke's work is concerned with functionality and the connections between craft and industry. She works across volume production and studio slip casting as well as enjoying the process of making involved in small-scale studio collections.
Her background is firmly rooted in the crafts. She trained at a small pottery in Lincolnshire, learning the skills of production throwing. Sue found the challenge of this relentless precision and the repetitive nature satisfying.
She is inspired by 'the everyday' and the ordinary tactility & utility, material qualities and the interaction we have with objects.

THESE are the bowls that you have been looking for. Trust me, I have been searching too. From a big bowl of porridge, through to a hearty soup, a warming stew or a decent bowl of pasta - this is it. Made in porcelain, each of these are slip cast and then glossy glazed on the inside and polished to a pebbly smooth finish on the outside. Mix and match the poink and grey if you can’t decide which to choose. The colours work really well together.

I’ve called it a Tea Cup because ‘Flat White Cup’ sounded a bit pretentious! Basically it’s a really lovely 6oz cup, slipcast in porcelain, with a glossy glazed inside and a pebble-smooth outside. Simple + stylish (in my opinion) = an excellent combination. Now you have to choose, Charcoal Grey or Soft Pink, or you could always mix and match. The colours work beautifully together.

Each tea strainer is individually slipcast and then carefully pierced by hand before the clay has fully dried. It is porcelain and polished to give a smooth pebbly matte finish.

Care: This is dishwasher safe. Tannins from tea build up these can be removed with soaking in bicarbonate of soda, don’t worry, it won’t harm the ceramic.

The shiny mirror-like surface of this softly curved pewter bowl reflects its entire surroundings; from ceiling lights to candle light, wood-grain to linen-folds, they catch the limelight and show off their contents. Fill it with anything, it's bound to look amazing.
Each bowl is spun and polished using traditional techniques by skilled craftsmen in a small factory in the heart of Sheffield.

The joy of craft is that no two pieces are the same, each one of these is ever-so-slightly different depending on where it was sitting in the kiln. The white tin-glaze lid has a simple English leather cord handle. It is glazed inside with a white tin glaze and remains unglazed on the outside. Designed by Sue Pryke, these are slipcast in a small rural factory in Nottinghamshire, using traditional hand processes to make and fire.
